Join us at the Utah State Capitol – ASIS SLC Chapter Luncheon and Security Operations Center Tour
The ASIS Salt Lake City Chapter is excited to host an in‑person luncheon and behind‑the‑scenes security tour at the iconic Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City. This is a unique opportunity to network with local security professionals, hear directly from the State Security Chief, and experience how Utah protects one of its most important and historic facilities.
Our host for the day will be Matt Pennington, State Security Chief for the Utah Department of Public Safety and former South Jordan Police Lieutenant, where he served in law enforcement for more than 15 years after beginning his career with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office. In his current role, Chief Pennington was appointed as Utah’s first State Security Chief and is responsible for safety and security across state facilities and critical infrastructure statewide. He will share the mission of the State Security Office, discuss current challenges and successes, and provide insight into how his team is elevating security across Utah’s public institutions.
Following the luncheon and presentation, attendees will receive a guided tour of the Capitol complex with a special focus on the building’s security posture, protective strategies, and the State Capitol Security Operations Center. You’ll have the chance to see how a historic, publicly accessible seat of government balances openness with modern security technologies, policies, and procedures.
Completed in 1916 and fully restored in the mid‑2000s, the Utah State Capitol is a landmark of neoclassical architecture, set on 40 acres overlooking downtown Salt Lake City, with a grand dome, marble interiors, and sweeping views of the Wasatch Front. It is home to Utah’s legislative chambers, ceremonial Supreme Court chamber, and the offices of top state officials, making it an ideal real‑world environment to discuss government security, continuity of operations, and visitor management.
